Abstract:

Introduction: Promoting community health and improving health status requires training and clarifying health information seeking behavior in the community. In this regard, due to the caring role parents have in the family, they can play an important role by improving their health information acquisition skills. This study aimed to identify the components related to parental health information seeking behavior. Methods: This was a library review study using a hybrid approach. After determining the keywords and searching in internal and external databases, 5574 articles were found. Applying filters and examining the content, the codes were extracted from 22 articles. Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP) indices were used to review the articles, and Shannon entropy table, expert opinion, and kappa coefficient were employed to extract the codes. Results: In this study, 4 main and 12 subcategories were identified. Information needs, sources of information, cognitive factors and barriers to class information acquisition, and health-oriented information as well as child health assessment, conventional and non-conventional sources, social support, communication infrastructure, information validity were among the subcategories. Conclusion: Facilitating the access to credible health-oriented information has a great impact on promoting health literacy and ultimately improving the level of health of individuals, including parents of children under 5 years old. Therefore, considering physical infrastructure, search skills, and individual and social differences as well as health information literacy training are among the factors affecting health promotion and improving its two-way relationship with health-information seeking behavior.

Abstract:

Introduction:  Access to timely, accurate, and appropriate health information during outbreaks such as COVID-19 can reduce  the  spread  of  the  disease.  For  this  purpose,  the  present  review  explores  individuals'  COVID -19-related  health informationseeking behavior. Methods: The present study is a scoping review, in which the data were collected by seeking the WoS, PubMed, and Scopus databases up to January 1, 2022. Inclusion criteria included papers in the English language in line with the study's objective. Results: The results of the study showed that the most important objectives of COVID-19-related health information seeking are categorized according to the symptoms and causes of the disease, disease control and prevention methods, treatment, economic and social issues, and pandemic-related news and information, as well as governments' programs. The most important searched resources are also categorized into "mass media", "social media", "internet", "official and government website", and "friends and relatives".Conclusion:  During the COVID-19 pandemic, people with different objectives seek various resources to acquire information and increase their knowledge about the disease. Given the importance of health information and information acquisition from reliable sources, different social classes must be trained to acquire reliable health information from accurate sources and methods. Accordingly, health institutions and organizations should provide purposive educational programs to improve health information literacy among different social classes.

The purpose is to gain a deeper understanding of health information seeking behavior of the pregnant women.Method: This is an applied qualitative method using Grounded Theory approach. Data were collected through semi- structured interviews with 15 pregnant women who were selected from 5 women's hospitals in Tehran. Data was analyzed using three stages of: Open; axial; and selective coding- used in Grounded theory approach- and a model of pregnant women’s health information seeking behavior was extracted. Results: five conceptual categories: information seeking motives, barriers, information seeking, information evaluation, and information sharing were the results of three stages of coding, expanded around the main idea of “pregnant women’s health information seeking behavior” to establish a model for this process. Based on the findings, pregnant women' s most essential information needs were psychological needs, nutrition, health of mother and fetus, and the ways of childbirth. The most important information seeking barriers were lack of time for searching information, lack of ability in information evaluation, and the high level of difficulty of the books. Physicians were the first and the most important reference in information acquisition and important criteria for information evaluation. Conclusion: Findings reveal the importance of information acquisition in pregnant women, effective intervention of information professionals in meeting information needs, removal of information seeking barriers, facilitating information seeking process and more attention to information centers seems necessary. Also, results could be applicable to various organizations for women’s health.
